Are You Enlightened?

Hi all, I’m Terry.

Enlightenment! What a fascinating subject; I guess I’ve spent most of my life searching for it or even just to understand what it is!

I can honestly say now that I do believe I have found it.

Although Enlightenment is not something you can discover and then you suddenly have it. Reading, researching, talking to people, trying things out, joining different religions and groups etc, all these are great things to do and it’s a real buzz when you discover a new truth and it finds it’s way to the core of your being.

These experiences for me were stepping-stones on the way to Enlightenment.

If I were pushed to give a definition of Enlightenment; in my case I would say is that “I feel I have become the thing I have spent years researching and reading about”

To claim to be ‘Enlightened’ is a very big claim to make. There are some who say I am ‘deluded’ and there are others who say worse things than that. I acknowledge the viewpoint of these people because I can understand why they think the way they do!

I think a major problem is arriving at a universal definition of ‘Enlightenment’ some questions to ponder are:

Do people have the right to say they are Enlightened because they think they are?
Can Enlightenment be a different experience for different people?

Is there a way Enlightenment can be measured in order to prove or disprove the claims people make?

I would be interested to hear the views of others concerning these points.

Thinking caps on folks
